Scorsese on his future films...

Take a look at this interview with Martin Scorsese...what do you all think?

would Taxi Driver or The Aviator have benefitted from 3D? would you be happy if Scorsese continued shooting and releasing his films in 3D?

  1. If a story does not captivate you I do not see how 3D could enhance it. 3D does not factor into my thoughts like that.

Only successful films are being recycled in 3D because it will guarantee the money at the box office and that there is no life/ideas in alot of films at the box office at the moment.

When thinking of original film ideas I do not think 3D should be the focus at all. If the focus is how will this look in 3D that concerns me. Like creating a recipe with a desired effect on the audience. Why? because we see in depth all the time-like Scorsese says..but we can see rubbish in depth too. I watched the Lion King in 3D, but the film had enough power to affect me watching it in 2D the first time it was released. And Im sure the people who re-visited the cinema had seen it previously. Taxi Driver did not need 3D to be popular and had an impact in 2D. I say don`t lose yourself in the technology and your original idea/vision. Always have an original idea/story. I wouldn`t be happy to watch all films in 3D, I would watch for the story not the effects.

  2. I agree with Amy, a solid story and interesting characters will always be more important than a visual gimmick or some new shiny technology.

But if anybody can give us both style and substance I guess it could be Scorsese?

I've yet to see a 3D film that was worth paying the extra for. The Lion King had good 3D in parts, but the animation and story is beautiful anyway and so seeing it in 2D would be no loss.

I've only seen Avatar in 2D, and it didn't live up to the hype for me personally, so maybe that film was praised more for its style in 3D than its substance.

Maybe we're just waiting for the right film to be released that includes 3D but doesn't make it the sole focus of the film? (and isn't a money-grabbing effect added during post)

Hmm, I'm not convinced Scorsese! I'll watch his films because they're by him, not because they're 3D. And leave Taxi Driver alone! :)
