Risk, Money, Craft & Collaboration

Some of you have mentioned that you found the Coppola quote on themes inspirational....here is the article it was taken from

"An essential element of any art is risk. If you don’t take a risk then how are you going to make something really beautiful, that hasn’t been seen before?"

  1. I enjoyed reading this article. Especially the part about the notebook and notes, using that as a way to start a screenplay. It is an inspiring article, also the part talking about self confidence and inadequacy. He knows all about it which is nice to know, from a great director.

  2. "I am a student....I just finished a film a few days ago, and I came home and said I learned so much today. So if I can come home from working on a little film after doing it for 45 years and say, “I learned so much today,” that shows something about the cinema"

that quote is on the wall in the classroom...i think it says a lot. this is a man who made the godfather and apocalypse now! but he's right - no one will ever have all the answers in regards to filmmaking and cinema in general.

i think that quote is particularly important to remember as a student in FE and even after you have graduated from HE - a course is only part of the journey and you will continue to learn your craft long after you have been awarded a qualification in it....

as he says, its a young medium and i hope you all seek to push it forward
